The mayor of Rutherford County, Tennessee (where my family and I live) just announced he is lifting the mask mandate. This is not the time to do this. COVID-19 cases in Tennessee have been surging recently. See the graph below from 91-DIVOC
This graph depicts the one-week average of new cases. Despite being the 16th largest state, Tennessee ranks eight among U.S. states. See the table below for a summary.
With an average of more than 1,400 new cases each day, this is not the time to start lifting mask mandates. Rutherford County needs to reinstate its mandate. Even better would be for Tennessee to issue a statewide mandate.
For those that think new cases are not a big issue, Tennessee also outranks its population rank in deaths per day as well. See the table below, which show the weekly average number of new deaths from COVID-19.
This is life-saving insight – if your mayor properly acts upon it. You ought to try to get it to him.
